As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country. Proverbs 25:25
Yesterday I was sorting through my mail, and tucked between advertisements, bills, and catalogs, I had a letter. Not only was the letter addressed to me, the envelope had hand-drawn flowers all around my name and address with more pretty flowers drawn on the back flap. This letter had been personalized, which made it all the more special to me. When I read the Return Address Label my heart skipped a couple of beats. It was from a young lady I had met this past Summer at our Church's Teen Camp. I couldn't wait to get home to read it!
As I made myself comfortable in my favorite chair, I opened this precious letter. This was not a short note, but a long letter. This precious, new friend told me all about her Summer. All the things she was able to do, her hobbies, things about her family, her home, and plans for her future. It truly was a blessing to me!
It made me think of another precious letter. The one God wrote to me; His Word. It's filled with things He has done, what He is doing now, and what He will do in the future. He tells me about his friends, His enemies, His family and about His home in heaven. He tells me things He likes and what He doesn't like.
God's Word is a personal letter from Him to me:
He knew me before I was even born-Psalm 139:13-17
He knows my name-Isaiah 43:1
The hairs on my head are numbered-Luke 12:7
He has kept every tear I have ever cried-Psalm 56:8
My name is written in heaven-Luke 10:20
He died for me-Galatians 2:20
And He died for you too- 1 John 2:2
Every day when I open up God's Word, may I always be excited to hear what He has to say to me!
If the Lord puts someone on our heart and in your mind today, send them a note, a card, a letter, email or a text. You will never know how encouraging it will be, not only to the person you write to, but it will encourage you too!
But that's just me!
