Most of us are walking away from a Thanksgiving table that is still loaded with food, and if so, we have much to be thankful for.
It wasn't like that 42 years ago when my husband and I first got married. We dined on simple meals with no extra's, no special treats or desserts and sometimes surviving on nothing more than Top Ramen or peanut butter sandwiches.
"And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would."
John 6:11
I read this verse the other day and the first thing that the Lord brought to mind was the hymn, "Little is much when God is in it."
I love this account. A mom packs her son's lunch for the day and off he goes to hear Jesus. He didn't have much, but he gave all he had to Jesus!
Isn't it something how Jesus meets all needs when we are willing to give all we have?
Can you imagine the little boy running home and telling his mom that he just shared his lunch with five thousand people and there were leftovers!?
How could that be?
Because Jesus prayed over that meager meal.
Jesus thanked God for what He had-and it was enough.
You see, ingratitude leaves you wanting-
Thankfulness reveals the plenty.
Then, Jesus gave to others first.
Have you ever had someone stop by your house right before you were about to sit down and eat your meal, and then decided to invite them to stay? Did you wonder if you were going to have enough? Funny how when you share what you have, there is always plenty, and it always seems you like you have extra.
Jesus prayed over His food.
Friend, do you pray over your food? How about when you are in a restaurant, perhaps driving thru a drive thru?
When we are thankful, there is always enough...
Not only enough for ourselves, but...
enough for others.
But that's just me!
