For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.
Isaiah 41:13
When I was 26 years old, I developed a chronic illness. Many a day and many a night I clung to this verse for comfort, help and peace. I still do. I find great comfort knowing that I have a God who will help me. We don't have to worry or fear, He is holding our hand and He is in control. He walks by our side; we are never alone. Such peaceful thoughts.
When I was a little girl, my mom would hold my hand while we crossed the street, or if we were shopping in a busy department store. I was never scared when she was holding my hand. The love I felt from our joined hands brought unmistakable peace. I knew I was in her care. Wherever she went, I went with her. She led me and kept me from harm. God does the same for us.
The word 'help' has so many definitions:
to give assistance or support-
provide something useful-
to improve or relieve-
make something more pleasant or bearable-
to rescue, to save-
to benefit, to promote-
to also prevent, to keep from occuring- (prevent from hurt or harm)
to restrain- (keep us from hurting ourselves, perhaps?)
That is what God's help gives us on a daily basis.
He has taken our hand,
and we are held-
I love that!
But that's just me!
"You have need to pray to God not only to help you in your troubles-but to help in your blessings."
Charles Spurgeon
