For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
Recently, I had an in-office, 15- minute medical procedure. A week later, like clockwork, I received a Statement in the mail breaking down the total cost of the procedure, the amount my Insurance company paid, and what my Co-Pay would be. Like most insurances, it will only cover a percentage of the total cost, but it will not pay the balance in full.
Religion does the same thing. It does not pay your sin debt in full. Religion always requires a work from you. Let me give you a few examples:
Jesus plus Baptism-
Jesus plus Rosary Bead Prayers-
Jesus plus Confirmation-
Jesus plus you-fill-in-the-blank.
John 19:30 says, When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
In other words: Jesus paid my sin debt in full. Jesus paid it all. No Co-Payment needed from me.
That, my friend, is the difference between Religion and True Christianity.
Jesus is enough.
Galatians 2:16 says, Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
So, stop working and start trusting in the finished work of Jesus Christ-
I am...
But that's just me!
"The child of God knows his good works do not make him acceptable to God, for he was acceptable to God by Jesus Christ long before he had any good works." Charles Spurgeon
"Justification by religious performances and meritorious deeds, is nothing better than the old Pharisaism with a Christian name stuck upon it...that doctrine makes the Lord Jesus Christ to be practically a nobody; for if salvation be of works, then the way of salvation through faith in a Saviour is superfluous, and even mischievous." Charles Spurgeon
